I got into a bit of a hurry to head towards the concert as I was on the other side of the city for other matters, so I either missed all the freebies or there weren’t any. I bought a light stick and a penta stick though, and met the same girl we’d met in MBLAQ’s concert. We had to wait outside in the sunshine for the information on where to line up and let’s just say that the organizers of MBLAQ definitely handled this one better, probably partly because they had a bigger venue. Though I think it had a lot to do with the lack of staff directed for helping out on that and, I don’t know about the other lines, but at least in ours there never was any staff checking if we were correctly in line so… I’m quite sure we weren’t. Except that we had a lot of Japanese (or more like everyone around me was Japanese) in our line who tried to keep up with the correct line so even though the two Japanese originally behind me with a number smaller by a hundred than mine told me it’d be cool with them if I stood there with them, I was a good sport and went further back in the line, to my rightful spot, or close to it anyway. Once inside, the venue was already so full of people that I didn’t really have a problem squeezing my way to a spot closer to the stage than where the rest of the line was heading to. I had no Koreans or other foreigners anywhere close to me, just Japanese here and Japanese there (I think the Japanese bulk buying killed the sale for the concert, and that’s why it sold out so soon). At first it looked like I wasn’t going to be able to see a thing (which I tried to convince to myself was okay because I got into them solely for their music and during the first months of listening to them I didn’t even have an idea of what they looked like) but when the concert started I realized I actually had a good view! Which I managed to keep for most of it. It was actually Hongki I often had the best view of, Jonghun for instance was sadly so far from me that from behind the ocean of people it was hard to see him.
I assumed they’d start with Hello Hello and that’s exactly what they did! After that they played I Will Get You and I was already ecstatic since it’s one of my ultimate favourites in terms of the stage performance. (Hongki’s pants at this point were rather… terrifying though). Bad Woman was already the third song, and I could feel my eyes getting filled with tears. It was my first song of theirs, my favourite song of theirs, and also what made F.T Island special: they’re one of the few k-pop artists and bands (the only one in my top 5 sans BoA) that I got into on first try. In addition to that, I’ve been to many concerts before but this was the first time I’ve had myself go on goose bumps. And it wasn’t a case of a sudden wave of shivers running through me, it actually lasted really long. Hongki is amazing like that.
After Bad Woman they switched to more upbeat songs and this was when Hongki started to show his playful and energetic side more. He was awesome. Not only does he have a voice that pierces right through your heart, but he has a stage personality that can ensure everyone enjoys their time. Already in the first talking section Seunghyun’s birthday was mentioned and he got the “birthday beating”.
After a few more songs they left the stage and a few videos of them were shown. Jonghun photographing, Jaejin looking fabulous, Minhwan working out, Seunghyun… I don’t remember, and Hongki tweeting tweeting constantly tweeting. Then it was time for the acoustic session which was really lovely.
The encore started with us singing “happy birthday” to Seunghyun. Twice, actually. First we sang it in English, and then the boys got together around a table where they placed this yummy looking chocolate cake on, and made Seunghyun put on a party hat, and then we sung again. Then Jonghun got the idea of throwing the cake on Seunghyun’s face – which he didn’t do – and to protect the maknae, I think Hongki slapped some of it on Jonghun’s face instead and then ran to the other side of the stage for cover. He still caressed Jonghun’s cheek before the night was over, too. The very last song of the concert was Primadonna – if I remember correctly – and then it was already over.
